I’ve mentioned several times on my blog that my Goodreads TBR usually has well over 4,000 books on it.
Those numbers you see above? Those are my Goodreads numbers as of August 12. Which is crazy and unreasonable.
I have a really bad habit of adding any book that sounds even remotely interesting to my TBR list because, you know, one day I might enjoy it. It’s likely a symptom of FOMO (fear of missing out). My TBR is so huge that it’s starting to overwhelm me when I try to find a new book to read.
There’s really no good reason for my TBR to be that huge anymore, and over the next month, I want to get it down to no more than 1,000 (I’d prefer 500, but I know myself).
When I scroll through my TBR list, over 80% of the books are titles I cannot recall the synopses for. I can’t even tell you what genre they are, or when or why I added these books to my Goodreads TBR.
As I go through the list slowly and read synopses, I keep finding books that I would never actually be interested in. I have a feeling most of them were added while watching booktube just because someone said they enjoyed it.
I feel like once I get my TBR down to a reasonable number of books, I’ll feel so much less stress hanging over my shoulders. Seeing 4,000+ to-be-read books is daunting. Now I just need to make a new, better habit of being discriminating when it comes to which books I want to spend my time on.
I have 632 books on my Goodreads TBR! I recently went through it page by page removing books I was not longer interested in. It took forever but was kind of fun and worth it in the end. So nice to know that every book on my TBR is actually something I’m interested in.

I have a weird problem where I keep deleting my whole tbr, creating a new one, and then never reading anything off of it. I also worry about not having enough books on it, and that I’ll run out of good ones to read.
It’s a struggle.
Great post btw, it really made me think.
